Scavengers

So, Monday is garbage pick up day in our neighborhood.  That means that while walking the dog on Sunday nights we watch all of the "scavengers" slowly troll the neighborhood.   They scavenge for "good" big-trash, and focus on metal to sell for scrap.  More power to them.  Reduce, reuse, recycle....

Here's what they all have in common.

1.  They all drive pick up trucks of "gifted longevity."
2.  They all use precarious methods involving rope and bungee cords to secure large items in the back of their pick up trucks.
3.  They all drive very slowly as they go right through the one stop sign in our neighborhood.

And most importantly

4.  They ALL need new mufflers!!!

The irony is not lost on us that trucks driving around the neighborhood trolling for scrap metal all need new mufflers.  Can they not fabricate something out of someone's 25 year old broken dishwasher or maybe the crossbeam of an ancient swing set?

  1. Is this a horrible confession to say that I have been a reverse scavenger - when my neighbors don't have a full recycling bin, I have been known to put mine in there so I don't have to drive to the recycling place. Maybe you won't read this and take me off your friend list. For the record, I did let my neighbor know - if that matters.
