A sad state of affairs

I am all for positive press - heck, if it wasn't for the Daily Show I would have no news outlet at all because I am so sick of the negative stuff - but I'm afraid the media sensationalism of, well, everything has gotten us to a sorry state.

Last week they reported on NATIONAL news that a Dairy Queen worker (who would be my hero before this story just based on the nature of blizzards alone) confronted a woman who had picked up a $20 bill off the floor that clearly belonged to a visually impaired customer and told her that it belonged to him. When she refused to give it back, he asked her to leave the store and then went into his own pocket and gave the customer $20.

This is indeed a great act - heroic even, but the fact that it was the only nice thing that the national news could find to report is a bit pathetic. I am happy to report that many customers have been going to that DQ and buying $1 ice creams with $20 bills and telling the employee to keep the change.

I am also happy to report that my daughter's friend was short at the cash register on Friday (by $19 I might add) and as she went to put one of the items back (we will discuss her poor math skills later) the woman behind her paid the balance. That's two in one week - what is this world coming to - hopefully a better place!
