Walking Tacos

I know you've been wondering "what do those people eat besides free rice and birthday cake when they are at Beach Access 31?"

Well, wonder no longer.

We've got a pretty good routine of sometimes eating together, sometimes going out, sometimes eating just with our immediate families, sometimes getting the most delicious fish tacos on earth, sometimes sitting at the edge of surf until the last minute and letting those kids of ours fend for themselves, and almost always going out for ice cream in the evenings!

Sometimes while singing

Gotta go to Rita's, Gotta go to Rita's ....

There's another story here about free ice cream that we'll tell another time.

It's a wonder we don't weigh 400 pounds (each) by the time we leave the beach.  It must be all that nervous energy we use up patrolling for sharks, baby eating seagulls, poor bathing suit choices and "the Pales."

One traditional meal we've had every year is Walking Tacos.

We used to do this with tiny bags of corn chips so we didn't need to wash dishes (we're nothing if not lazy about housework at BA31).   Now that our tribe has grown in number and our kids eat significantly more food than they did years ago, we use giant bags of chips and plates -- sometimes of the paper variety.

So here's the basic "recipe" for Walking Tacos.

Big bags of chips
A giant recipe of this Hamburger Cream Cheese Dip
Shredded Cheese
Lettuce
Olives (if we remember)
Fresh tomatoes that actually have flavor
Sauteed peppers and onions
Salsa
Avocados
And whatever else shows up on the table.

Grab a plate -- assemble your own -- walk out onto the deck and eat it.

Walking Tacos.  I think I'll make some tonight here just to remember what it's like to be warm! We may not eat on the deck though.

And in case you're also wondering... yes, I do bring a giant crock pot to the beach.  Weird I know, but this year we fed 20 on Walking Tacos night.
