Dutch lessons and book club.

I've been in a book club for the past ten years.

We read a book one month and talk about a movie the next.  It's a nice mix.

[I should say here that I don't enjoy the movies nearly as much as the books, but if we meet at a restaurant it's much more likely that our waiter will have seen the movie than have read the book.]

We've got a core of about four people and other people have come and gone over the years.

We cover a wide range of ages, life experiences, careers, faiths, parenting experience, and recently nationalities.

We all share a love of good books, good food and of course humor. But not necessarily humorous books about food.

It's terrific.

Refreshing.

Sometimes the highlight of my month.

Our most recent member is from The Netherlands.  Here for a short few years with her husband's job.

She's delightful!

And when we met at her house two weeks ago she made an outstanding traditional Dutch dinner.

With a cabbage salad/slaw/casserole (I don't even know what to call it) that I've had dreams about since then.

So I e-mailed and asked for the recipe.

Here's what I got in response with the following note:  "good luck...let me know how it turns out..."

So so funny.

I'm planning to try it this weekend.

I'll let you know how it turns out.
