Apparently my frustration with carpool lane is not singular.
This note was in the weekly e-mail recently.
The safety of our students is our highest priority. Keeping our students safe in the parking lots before and after school is a collective responsibility. Please make the following items a focus of your attention while in our school parking lots:
- The morning drop-off/pick-up at Main Campus is set-up for individuals to drop off their child and then exit in the appropriate lane. It is not appropriate for individuals to avoid waiting in line by creating an additional lane for drop-off/pick-up traffic. This creates a dangerous situation for students and drivers. Please watch for some changes to the traffic patterns to address these safety concerns.
- Individuals need to stay off cell phones in order to keep their focus on pick-up. Distracted driving has the potential to create a dangerous situation for everyone in the parking lots.
I don't even understand it. I fear "changes to the traffic patterns to address these safety concerns." might make things worse, but I can't imagine that it could actually get worse. (boo hoo first world problems)
There are so many problems with this I don't even know where to begin.
That adults have to be reminded to follow rules for the safety of kids is just the first.
And I really don't understand why an administrator or "safety officer" can't walk out to the car pool lane one day and tell Mrs. Blue Honda Pilot to stop parking in the driving lane to wait for her kid.
