Dutch Cabbage Part Twee

I'm sure you noticed last Friday that the recipe for the cabbage salad included a particular Dutch cookie that you crumble into the dish as the cabbage is cooking?

Oh, you don't read Dutch? I know that at least one of you does!

We happen to have a huge international market nearby that carries food that you usually can't find anywhere else in the area.

A neighbor and I went there for a few things including the elusive Dutch cookies.

As we turned the corner towards "The Netherlands" who should appear?

Yes, my friend from book club!!  With two Dutchy friends.  Practically squealing with glee that they had found this particular item which translates into English as "tough tough"

Of course I was delighted to have a Dutch docent to show me around and find exactly the cookies that I needed.  How fortuitous.

[My neighbor who I've been trying to get to come to book club may now think I'm a complete wingnut!  Or perhaps this was the nail in the coffin because she already suspected I'm a wingnut.]

I was talked into buying a "tough tough" cookie of my own, with the warning that I may want to wait to eat it until after I get the braces off.

The tradition includes putting your shoes out on December 5 while Sinterklaas visits your house and fills your shoes with treats including the Taai taai cookies.

I'm supposed to eat it slathered in butter.

I can hardly wait until Friday.

The blood's been running through my veins a bit too fast anyway.
